British bass Daniel Vening is a 2025 Jerwood Young Artist at Glyndebourne and in September 2025 will join the International Opera Studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich.
He graduates from Royal Academy Opera in 2025 where he is a student of Mark Wildman and Iain Ledingham. Daniel previously gained first class honours in his BMus course and distinction in his MA at the Royal Academy of Music.
In September 2024 he made his BBC Proms debut singing the role of Bottom in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Garsington Opera. Also for Garsington, Daniel performed the role of Lackey in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, and as an Alvarez Young Artist covered Mícha in Smetena’s The Bartered Bride.
For Royal Academy Opera, he has sung Sarastro in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Re di Scozia in Handel’s Ariodante, Betto in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, The Portrait in Martinů’s Alexandre Bis and Snug in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
For the Royal Academy Song Circle, Daniel performed Brahms’ Vier Ernste Gesänge, Op. 121 at Wigmore Hall in January 2025.
Recent concert work includes performances of Haydn’s Creation and Nelson Mass, Handel’s Messiah, the Mozart Requiem and Solemn Vespers, Bach’s St. John Passion, B Minor Mass, Cantatas Darzu ist erschienen der Sohn Gottes BWV 40 and Wachet! betet! betet! wachet! BWV 70, Schubert’s Mass in G, the Fauré Requiem, Vivaldi’s Dixit Dominus, and most notably Schubert’s Winterreise.
